Establish Better Diplomatic Relations with the University

ImageThrough diplomatic relations, I think the town can work with the university. We as a town need to understand the growth pressures that the university is under and also the fact that the state of North Carolina is trying to expand educational opportunities for its citizens. At the same time, the university needs to understand that its actions have a strong impact on the town—such as traffic congestion, encroachment on the tax base, and stress on our environmental resources. The university adds so much to this community and I hope the town can work cooperatively with the university for the benefit of all.

ASU's Proposed New Education Building

If ASU plans to build a new education building, that’s great! But let’s make sure it blends in with the rest of Boone. Let’s make sure the building is part of the town rather than separate and distinct. Even a large building can blend in with the rest of downtown through proper design, landscaping, and pedestrian access. After all, when students are trying to decide which college to attend, they are looking not only at the college itself, but also at the town in which the college is located.

Simply Put:

Look, if we have to live in this town together, we may as well get along.
