The Benefits of Smart Growth for Boone

The movement toward Smart Growth for Boone is a step in the right direction--especially as we try to cope with ever increasing growth pressures. Smart Growth has a lot of great ideas like:

1) expanding transportation and housing options                                                                   (addressing traffic and affordable housing),

2) increasing the efficiency of land use                                                                                (encouraging redevelopment and discouraging urban sprawl),

3) making the development process more predictable and less frustrating, and

4) finding creative ways to preserve our natural beauty and character.

These ideas are going to be extremely beneficial for Boone, and with my background in urban planning, I can offer the perspective and techniques to make Smart Growth work for Boone.

Ensuring Developers Address the Concerns of our Community

With Smart Growth, the developer is encouraged to get to know the concerns of a surrounding area before starting a project. These concerns may be traffic, visual buffering, noise control, and light pollution. From here, the developer then starts the planning stages--incorporating these concerns into the design. Subsequent public hearings for community input are conducted to ensure compliance, but, hopefully, this process will alleviate some of the anxiety of surrounding neighborhoods and some of the headaches for the developer.
