Strict Design Standards for Big Box Retailers

ImageWhether you like it or not, many people enjoy shopping at major retail stores. Furthermore, major retailers are about the only entity who can afford the current development costs here. With major retail centers and other large development projects, I would enforce strict adherence to design standards that would be more characteristic of a mountain area.

Negotiations for Contributions to the Community

In return for perhaps less parking requirements or reduced landscaping standards, I would ask that a major commercial project contribute to the Greenway Trail or purchase land for a preservation easement. Major retailers are usually touting how much they contribute to the local community; let them put their money where their mouth is.

Small Business vs. Major Retailers

ImageI feel that as long as small businesses continue to offer desirable products with good customer service, they will keep their competitive edge. Product differentiation is the key to survival in a highly competive market.
